Electrochemical process of metal removal
Electrochemical process of metal removal from an important group of advance machining process. In sach process, material Frome the workpiece is removed by a combination of electrical energy and chemical reactions. These processes are based on Faraday's law of electrolysis, which states that if two electrodes are placed in a bath of a conductive liquid & a D.C potential is applied across them. Metal can be deployed from the anode and deposit (plated) on the cathode. This principle is in use from a long time in the process of electroplating. Electrochemical metal removal process use reverse of this principle.
Some commonly used electrochemical process of metal removal are-
1. Electrochemical machining.
2. Electrochemical grinding.
3. Electrochemical deburring.
4. Electrochemical homing.
Basic elements of electrochemical machining process are-
1. Cathode tool.
2. Anode tool ( & fixtures to hold it).
3. Power supply.
4. Electrolyte.
