Engineering
design involves both the art of designing and science of designing .it is a
design, which must be concerned with physical reliability or economic and
financial feasibility. Engineering design influences almost all aspects of
creating artifacts for society. Engineering design –
- Synthesizes new information for product realization.
- Influences the technological, economic and marketing aspects of production.
Thus,
if routine technology can be used to accomplish the goal, it is termed as
design and when the technology involved is complex, it is termed as engineering
design.

- Adaptive Design

Original Design :-
New Design is also
called as original or inventive or creative design . it is quite difficult to
make new designs, as to create a new design personal qualities of high order
are desired in a designer. The design of locomotives, aero planes,
microprocessor are some example of new design.
Adaptive Desgin;- Original design are very rate,
adaptive design’s are relatively common in practice. In this type of design, a
known solution is used to satisfy a different need. For example, using the
concept of ink-jet-printing for spray binder to hold particles in a rapid prototyping
machine, is an example of adaptive design.
Redesgin
;- Most of the time, engineering design is employed to improve an
already existing design. Redesign any product, the basic working principal or
the concept of original design remain unchanged. Redesigning is often employed
to improve the performance of a product or to reduce its cost of manufacture.
Selection design
;- in many
applications, the design process actually refers to the selection of components
with required quality, performance and cost from the catalogues of vendors.
Selection design is mainly employed for standard components such as bearing,
small motors or pumps.
Industrial
Design ;-
This type of design is mainly used to
improve the appeal of a product to the human sense, especially aesthetic
appeal, it is a very important aspect of a design, as the success of a design mainly
depends upon its interface with the human user. Industrial Design is generally considered.
